DAB-DGPS in Europe

The world's largest DAB-DGPS network, WALCORS, is operated in Belgium by the Wallonian Ministry of Transportation.

WALCORS comprises a network of 23 GPS reference stations spread over the Wallony. An optimized 'average value' of the correction data is broadcast on RTBF's DAB ensemble.
The DAB service permits realtime positioning at sub-meter accuracy within the entire country.

For the official operation of the WALCORS network (which started in 2003), Esslinger has developed portable DAB-DGPS receivers. They were designed to interconnect with Trimble professional GPS equipment.

Already in 2001 the Esslinger company started providing consulting and technology services for an initial Belgian DAB-DGPS field test.

See below the list of projects in which we also participated to supply DAB-DGPS technology.

Spain
2000/
2001
Esslinger provided the Instituto Geográfico Nacional of Spain with DAB reception technology for a DGPS field test in Madrid. In this context a suite of specific, PC-based DAB-DGPS measurement tools was developed.

Adding RTK (high accuracy) services to the DAB-DGPS network.
Opening the network to other industrial DAB applications.
    Germany
    1997/
    1998
For a SAPOS field test, engineered by the Landesvermessungsamt Nordrhein-Westfalen, we initially supplied DAB reception technology suitable for DGPS. Accuracy was measured and approved during extensive field measurement sessions. The trial has proven that DAB is a carrier fully suitable for DGPS, even for the daily survey fieldwork.
